If you look carefully with the same subject shot
with and without SS1, you will see that the resolution
is slightly reduced, and "stair-stepping" on
near-horizontal
lines is larger - this is due to the dropping of alternate
scan lines, which will also make motion look less smooth...
If needed, you can go to about SS2 (1/15th NTSC) with
acceptable results if the low-light conditions require it
for better image color (sometimes turning off the
stabilizer, using "portrait" mode, or using
manual-exposure
mode and moving a "notch" above maximum brightness
will help
with some models and look better than using the SS
feature...).
