There are "video sender" units that are cheap that
can
use the RCA video out (they can run on batteries) - but
the range is fairly limited (I've had good luck with
the picture, but not the sound - but you don't need the
sound...). As for the auto shut-down, it is to save wear
on tape and heads, and some Lanc controllers can restart
the camera...
