The VX1000 and VX700, the first "prosumer" DV
Sonys,
were quiet, but the TRV9 was VERY noisy - but all Sony
DV models sold in the last four+ years I know of have
not picked up motor noise (though some pick up slight
focus and zoom noise). Of course, if you put these into
a small, hard-surfaced room and record near a surface,
it is likely you will hear some motor noise...
