All the major players have "current"
"handy-cam"-style
models out, unlikely to be replaced soon (these have about
a 5-year "life" before replacement); all these are
about
"state of the art", given the CCD size and type
limitations
used by each manufacturer. Who knows, though - it is past
time for a much-improved XL-2 to appear, so...;-)

Their video 3-CCD blocks cannot do full-resolution
PS-mode - and the still-camera CCDs cannot deliver
high-enough frame-rates, either... The JVC HDTV
camcorder looks only moderately interesting so far,
since it appears to be very "low-end". A $4000
3-CCD version with a better VF would be FAR more
interesting than this so-so 1-chipper early entry...

The PDX100 doesn't either...;-) It is an excellent
camera (as is the Canon GL2, JVC 300, Sony TRV950
(except for low-light range), and my still-preferred
for best picture and greatest low-light range, Sony
VX2000/PD150), but none of these small-chip cameras
can do magic with DOF.

Lock the aperture at maximum, dial in a ND filter,
zoom a bit long, move in close, and....;-)
