a word (ever so tempting as it is to blast away...!),

Well, I will toss this in, anyway: for a notch up,

look at the Sony VX2000/PD150, Panasonic DVX100,

JVC DV-GY300, and Canon's own GL2; for a couple of

notches up, check out the various Sony, JVC, and

Panasonic (not the "el cheapos", which bury the old

EZ30U/950 compact camera in a shoulder-mount

body) shoulder-mount models. With enough money,

though, the "low-end" D50 and HD models (and maybe

top-end BetaSP) are more interesting...
