Problem is that the
music
is a bit distorted. I have a Sony
ECM-MS908C external
microphone
that I haven't been using because when I run tests
recording
the music it comes out a bit bassy and not the clear sound
of the
internal mike.

I just stick with the Sony Mike and have it record a deeper
sound. I've also been looking at the Sony ECM-S930C
mike but
not
sure how it would be.
The
908c is actually a fairly well-balanced mic for music - if it
sounds
"bassy", I would suspect a problem elsewhere (camera
mics
are often intentionally shy in the bass to minimize wind and
room
noises, and boosted in the upper midrange to exaggerate
voices).
You may also be recording too far off axis of the
directional
speakers often used by bands (if you are shooting
from
the side, this is almost certainly the cause). You can (and
should!)
EQ the sound while editing - rarely is casually-acquired
sound
without some need for EQ. If you have a smooth
acquisition
system, you can then generally modify the response
to fit
your needs, and this is likely better provided by the 908c
than
your camera's built-in mic - though there are better mics
for the
job that are not hopelessly expensive (AT 822?).
