For many years, both Apple and Canon have offered

reduced-price/free gear to schools, knowing that

the early cost is reaped in later profit as those

who "grew up with" Canon and Apple will believe

in them and purchase them even when they are, at

times, the inferior and/or more expensive products

available at the time of purchase. The above is

nothing new - I saw Canon hand out gear to college

photographers and to school papers 30 years ago,

and more recently, PCs can't compete with 1/2-priced

Apple editing systems when people are equipping

school NLE labs...

Good marketing works! ;-)
