For many years, both Apple and Canon have offered
reduced-price/free gear to schools, knowing that
the early cost is reaped in later profit as those
who "grew up with" Canon and Apple will believe
in them and purchase them even when they are, at
times, the inferior and/or more expensive products
available at the time of purchase. The above is
nothing new - I saw Canon hand out gear to college
photographers and to school papers 30 years ago,
and more recently, PCs can't compete with 1/2-priced
Apple editing systems when people are equipping
school NLE labs...
Good marketing works! ;-)
