I will
change this to low-light non-"night-shot/view" mode...:

Does anyone know what shutter speeds are used?
Anything
you want, assuming that lower than normal shutter speeds are
available
- but anything lower than the lowest normal range will halve the
vertical
resolution and introduce artifacting due to the dumping of one
of the
interlace fields...

This is
true for all that do not switch out the infrared-blocking filter and
shoot
in IR-mode (the imager is then more sensitive, but the color is
terrible
- best to shoot at normal shutter speed and use B&W mode to
remove
the color when doing this). You can also add light, either visible
or
infrared...

Does Sony compr[om]ise colour depth to allow a higher shutter speed?
No, it
switches to IR-mode, making the color useless - but the shutter speed
in this
mode can be normal, giving a better image...
