Of
course run tests! This is the only way you will learn.
Keep
notes on what you did that was successful. Most
video
images can be improved with careful color filtering
(balance,
saturation), tone filtering (brightness, contrast,
gamma
[and more complex tone adjustment] - including
working
on parts of the image frame using masking),
sharpening
(sometimes - including working on parts of
the
image frame), cropping (sometimes), framing, etc.
Before
making major changes in color and tone, though,
make
sure you have fairly neutral monitors...
