This is true (and a limitation of using this method)
for most transitions, though for the best cross-dissolves,
it works well. Open the track (on V2+), and apply any shape
cross-dissolve you want with the transparency "rubber
bands" ("S"-curves are often nicer than the
straight-line
curve used by the default cross-dissolve transition).
BTW, P-5 made checker-board inserts easier, since the
razor tool cut both video and audio, and the parts
remained locked. I leave P-5 for P-6 with reluctance...;-)
