They
all represent a set of compromises (even the big, expensive 3-CCD
units
do), and your preferences among the various characteristics should
lead
you to a few choices. In the 1-CCD cameras, I tend to favor Sony
for
their generally better color (balance
and saturation) and resolution,
and for
generally greater freedom from mic pick-up of camera sounds,
but
form-factor and controls preferences may lead you elsewhere (to the
best of
the competition). Within the Sony line there are three "levels" of
camcorders:
the bottom-end, with a normal-resolution CCD (good color,
relatively
little motion-artifacting, reasonable low-light range - overall
"pleasant",
but not outstanding in either problems or advantages); the
middle
level, with a 1 megapixel CCD (better color saturation and image
resolution,
with a bit more motion-artifacting and more restricted low-light
range);
the upper level, with 1.5-2 megapixel CCDs (very good color and
image
resolution for 1-CCD models, but with excessive motion-artifacting
and
very limited low-light range). Decide what characteristics and model
features
are more important to you, then select what best fits your
preferences
- there is no absolute "best"...
