I think this has been answered before..., but:
assuming clip three fits between clips one and two
(which formerly overlapped and had a transition
between), and you want to have a transition between
clips one and three, and also between two and three
(without upsetting the alternation of clips on V1a and
V1b, called "checkerboarding"), do as was suggested
earlier and cut clip three into two parts, moving one
*part* up or down as needed to maintain the checkerboard
pattern. Overlap the far ends of clip three with clips
one and two, and add the transitions...
