Not really, anymore (though we used to avoid
Via chipsets...). BTW, these days you can buy an
off-the-shelf good PC, ready to edit with (though
I prefer to add a second monitor, at least another
hard-drive, and more capable editing software) for
about $700-$800 without monitors. It is hard to beat
this building your own anymore... Also BTW, ignore
CPU speeds - the rendering time differences between
a good 800MHz machine and a good 2.66GHz machine are
surprisingly minimal - and this is about the only
function that "CPU power" will effect much...;-)
