It's not for power saving, but for saving

head and tape wear - removing the tape

keeps the camcorder from shutting down in

camera mode - but this is not useful if

taping. Some models (Canon and Sony) use

a Lanc controller that can "wake" the camera,

but I'm not sure if there is a similar

wired remote for the Panasonic...
