I'd look for close-outs on the Sony cameras with the
1/4.7"
megapixel CCD - these have a very clean low-light image
with good color down to their (not very low) low-light
limit (TRV740 [D8], TRV25, TRV27, and PC101, some of which
should be considerably cheaper than $1000, especially
if bought at a *good* mail-order discounter...).
