The 900 was "average", which is to say, if
carefully set
up, it is quiet enough for most purposes; mismatch gains,
and it is noisy (in common with most other
"prosumer"
camcorders).

There are currently several, but don't expect better sound
with most - and all are considerably larger...

Then don't buy a TRV950/PDX10 (the Panasonic 3-chippers
other than the DVX100 are even worse for low light). The
best for this is probably the VX2000/PD150, with these
close: Panasonic DVX100, JVC300, Canon GL2. Sorry - still
no "best in every aspect" camcorder, but the best
(all the
specific ones mentioned above, for the "small"
camcorders)
are all good enough for most purposes...
