"MR" has it right - the audio on camcorders isn't
perfect,
but it is FAR better than you indicate, and quite capable
of excellent results (especially with a little work in post,
as you would normally also do with the picture) for most
purposes. Weakest area: the included mics - but these should
be selected for best-characteristics-for-the-particular-use
anyway, and the included mics are often excellent for some
purposes (but cannot be for all...). BTW, I'm quite happy
with the audio on my three VX2000s, and often make use of
the excellent AGC for "live" events...
