Those "tiny little lines" can be made larger in
Premiere,
and the mouse area can be magnified in Windows, for a
REALLY large view, if desired... I find the level
adjusts (both in the gain menu and in the graphical
display) quite intuitive in Premiere, and easy to
control down to the single frame level (which permits
good blending of sonically difficult clip edges, and
"micro-gain-riding" when necessary to maintain
overall
sound level without clipping occasional peaks [the
built-in adjustable-characteristic compressor can also
work well for this]).
