Many of us consider it the "bottom of the heap"

among current 3-CCD Mini-DV/DVCam camcorders.

Look instead at the Sony VX2000 (best buy),

PD150, TRV950, PDX10 (if into 16:9), Panasonic

DVX100, Canon GL2, JVC 300; in shoulder-mounts:

JVC 500/etc., Panasonic 200, Sony 300/etc.

(a well-equipped XL-1s can cost about as much

as a better JVC500, BTW...). I'm not sure why

people start their search with the worst, but

I suspect it is due to the good quality of the

"image" of the product as created by advertising

more than the quality of the images it can

shoot...;-) ALL of the above camcorders above

produce better images, and do it more easily

than with the XL-1 - and given the several

XL-1 shortcomings, the base price is only

the beginning, not the final price, of a

decent working camera (with still-inferior

image-quality...).
