No. I have had four VX1000s, and none had this problem.
Your description indicates an intermittant ground connection
in the mic.

Possibly, since the internal mic is disabled when a plug
is inserted into the mic input - but normally the grounds
are not switched, only the "hots", so if the
intermittant
connection is on the wrong side of the internal/external
mic switching, you will still have hum. If this is a wiring
problem external to the built-in mic, it may be an easy fix,
but if internal to the mic, the mic would likely need
replacing...
