If the prices were not "around the same price",
this would
be true...

If it is "new", and checks out well, it should not
matter
much how old it is, except possibly for repairs a few years
from now...

Then get the TRV900 - it is an excellent model (with some
quirks), with the VX2000 image and sound (with the built-in
mic) better (but the 2000 is more awkward to use casually),
and with the TRV950 image in good light also better (but
the 950 has very limited low-light range compared with the
other two, and may not be suitable for some of your
purposes). Maybe you can get a better "deal" on
the 900,
since it is long discontinued...?

I can't see any point in waiting - there can be only minor
improvements (if any) in the basic performance of the gear
relative to the 2000, given the limitations of the medium.
Only features might change - though mebbe Sony will
"see
the light" and again make a good compact 3-chipper that
is
good in low light...;-).

You do not appear to be confused about the issues, but have
just not made up your mind based on them (though you appear
to be close...;-).
