Will my PC have some problems?
(I
didn't know you could buy an 800MHz P-4...;-)
My
experience lately is that running older software (Premiere
5.1
instead of P-6) on a good 800MHz P-3 computer,
using a
fast codec (Canopus) is about as fast
as running
newer
software and MS codec on a 2+GHz P-4 computer.
So, I
rebuilt the new computer (and reconstructed the old
one, as
a spare) with the Raptor card and P-5.1, and even
though
I traded out the 2.66GHz CPU and MB with faster
bus and
RAM (the MB SIS chipset was incompatible with
the
Raptor) for a 2.2GHz and guts, the render speed is now
more
than doubled compared with the other computer
versions
(it's about 1:1 now vs. 2-2.5:1...). BTW, Premiere
at
least doesn't use dual CPUs very efficiently...
