The 50mm E and AF designs are the same but for

multicoating on the AF (given the small number of

air-glass surfaces in this lens, there is not

much difference [if any] in the performance - with

greater differences likely due to mabnufacturing

variations...). With the E lenses, all the non-zooms

were not multicoated, but the two zooms were (and

had mostly-metal barrels, unlike the non-zooms).

The E lenses 50mm and longer (and the two zooms)

were quite good, with the 28 and 35 being quite

variable. The 100 was outstanding, as were the 135

and 75-150 E lenses. For more, see:
