"HAD" CCDs in the Sony, 1/4"CCDs in the Canon, if we are going
by specs
alone (dangerous...;-). Most people who have tried both prefer
the
image-quality (especially in low light) of the Sony - but the GL2 is the
closest
Canon has come to the Sony level of image-quality in their Mini-DV
line,
and the GL2 is one of the "big four" to consider in 3-CCD Mini-DV
fairly-compact
camcorders. It does have a longer lens than the others, if
that is
important to you (I prefer best-possible short-lens performance...).
At the
same price (other than the long-lens GL2 advantage, if really needed),
I would
choose the Sony (others to consider are the JVC DV-GY300, and
especially
the Panasonic DVX100a - this last is the "other" of the "big
two"
in this
category...;-).
