I would not come to this conclusion...

removing the filter is generally unnecessary,

assuming it is not defective...;-)

The shade can help keep dust (and fingerprints,

if you are clumsy...;-) off the filter...

Learn how to "back-wind" filters with the lens

front turned upward to get them to drop properly

into the starting thread, to avoid cross-threading...
