I was surprised to find this, also - and it permits

constant-aperture use of variable-aperture zooms.

BTW, for color slides, I still prefer the accuracy of

using the infinitely-variable stop-settings using the

aperture ring with manual exposure, but for negatives,

the slight errors possible (up to 1/6th stop) are not

worth worrying about...
