I joined years ago - the ACLU does one thing only:

it works to protect basic rights guaranteed under the

US constitution - whether doing so is "convenient",

popular, "in", or (very much) not... While others would

readily sweep away basic rights for "good" reasons,

these rights are difficult to restore once lost, so they

MUST be protected - and the ACLU is the only

institution/organization that has consistently tried to

do this. The "bad rap" some organizations attempt to

put on the ACLU should make one suspicious of

those organizations' intents and purposes...
